Formation of the New Zealand Federation of Meccano Modellers (NZFMM)

In the last issue of the Wellington Meccano Club News for 1st December 1978 it was reported as follows:

" It has been suggested by several members that New Zealand Meccano Enthusiasts form a N. Z. Federation of Meccano Modellers. (N.Z.F.M.M.) Each club would still retain their own identity and each would still be responsible for their own administration. Meetings of the proposed Federation could be held bi-annually at the Meccanomens Conventions, where small working committees could be elected."
and
"Also suggested is that the W.M.C News could become the N.Z.F.M.M. Magazine, with space being allocated to each affiliated NZ Meccano club."

This duly came about and the first NZFMM magazine was issued in January 1979.

The NZFMM also holds national meetings from time to time to enable modellers to show off their skills to fellow modellers and to be able to display to the public what MECCANO was / is all about.

New Zealand Federation of Meccano Modellers Magazine ( NZFMM Magazine )

This magazine is written and produced for Meccanomen by Meccanomen. The aim of the magazine is to:
  • Publish articles and photographs about Meccano and Meccano models
  • To report the outcomes of meetings of the various Meccano clubs throughout the country
  • To print letters expressing the views of Meccano modellers
  • To keep members informed of future events and to print advertisements of Meccano related things.
We are always in need of further copy for the magazine.
If you have any ideas or can write an article or story relating to Meccano, please contact the current editor David Couch.

NZFMM National conventions / exhibitions

Many Meccano exhibitions have been mounted around New Zealand over the years since the formation of the NZFMM providing the opportunity for Meccano modellers to meet, discuss Meccano related issues and of course to display their models, individual skills and to yarn to other members and the general public.

The biennial convention/exhibition of the NZFMM is held over the Easter weekend at different locations around New Zealand in odd numbered years, and is generally hosted by one of the major New Zealand Meccano clubs on behalf of the NZFMM. During the intervening even numbered years an informal gathering for NZFMM members "March Madness/April Antics" is held on a weekend in March or April at a central North Island location (usually New Plymouth or Taupo).

The current President of the NZFMM is Roland Jaspers, email: jaspersrmnz@gmail.com
