Woodpeckers by Stephen Westmoreland
This model of a Woodpecker furiously attacks the trunk of a "tree" as it slowly works its way down it. It was first conceived by Melvyn Wright (UK) and described in the August 1969 Meccano Magazine. The much more attractive woodpecker used by Stephen is based on a "simplicity" model of a bird conceived by Ian Laing (South Africa) described in the April 1979 Meccano Magazine. At the 1982 Auckland NZFMM New Zealand exhibition Bruce Neilson had combined the two models and had five woodpeckers on trees in a row racing each other to the bottom!
